Vacuuming carpeting and washing your clothes and other fabrics frequently at least once every 2 or so weeks is the best way to prevent a carpet beetle infestation. While the beetle larvae. The larvae avoid light and are usually found in dark protected places. Washing with warm water and frequent inspection of home to find their presence would help to prevent them.

We also have to vacuum other fabric covered areas or upholstered furnitures which cannot be washed in machines. Gather your clothes towels bedding even the curtains and wash them on a high temperature to kill any left carpet beetles. Treat spills and stains immediately as well. Throw clothes in the dryer on the high heat setting for about 30 minutes.

If possible throw as many items you can into the washing machine and wash them on a relatively hot setting. Clean your carpets with hot water and shampoo or steam clean them. Clean carpet beetle prone areas frequently. An infestation may start in one location like an animal carcass but emerging adult beetles can then lay eggs in other places in a home.

Put everything in the washing machine. Carpet beetles are minuscule insects with an insatiable appetite for clothes and furniture in addition to carpet fibers. Food and sweat stains on fabrics can attract carpet beetles. The larvae are brownish hairy and active.
