We purchased a cedar sided home last oct found out the previous owner used a 50 50 mix of linseed oil turpentine on the siding. Linseed oil is a natural oil extracted from flaxseed. This was much lighter toned when newer but over time has gotten darker with multiple coats of linseed oil over the years. Overall the siding is in remarkably good shape for being 18 years old. Wood stains are toxic to inhale and can harm your skin so wear a respirator mask and gloves and apply stain an area with proper ventilation. A 50 50 mixture mix of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner will restore the vibrancy of the plastic as well as add a layer of protection.
